Mercury Contactors & Relays

Mercury Contactors
Mercury Contactors replace big maintenance heavy cycle electromechanical contactors. The contact portion of elcetromechanical contactors are made of silver. Every time a contactor cycles a small spark is produced which disipates alittle silver into the atmosphere. Manufacturers have spent millions of dollars trying to reduce the arch and the results have been cooling fins, or large contact size, both equate to more dollars and size.

Mercury Contactors take a different approach: a completely encapsulated contact area. There is no Dissipation of the contact surface simply because with in the enclosed environment there is no place for the mercury to escape. Results are extremely long life and tolerance to fast cycle times.

When the coil is energized a float is pulled down into the mercury, displacing the mercury and completing the circuit.
